👉🏻 but here I am again to let you know I just released another volume of JAZZ CATS, a compilation that celebrates the vibrant local jazz scene we have in Belgium.
Volume 4! It means that there is no slowing down in the emergence of local jazz bands in Belgium; they are all young, hungry and determined to find their own path and sound within the scene. The scene is constantly evolving and loves to experiment with sounds, collaborating with musicians from different horizons and discovering instruments and musical traditions from around the world. It doesn’t surprise me when a musician tells me they are blending different genres, because in the end it reflects the society we live in.
At the same time, that society is facing significant cuts to cultural activities and organisations through austerity measures, threatening the sustainability of our cultural institutions and artists’ livelihoods. The pressure is on and tells us we need to do better with less. Through a compilation on SDBAN Records, I’m proud to help musicians and bands gain the exposure they deserve. The music collected for Jazz Cats Volume 4 has a very distinct sound. Some tracks lean towards the more experimental side of jazz, which is exactly what I’m looking for, music that pushes the boundaries of what jazz can be. Jazz is a genre in constant evolution, adapting to its surroundings and expressing feelings that words cannot always describe.
